What is B.M 

B.M ( Bench Mark ) it's a known point. It is a reference point where we calculate all other's point elevation.

What is H.I 

                    H.I  ( Height of Instrument ) elevation of the

 Horizontal Cross Hair is Called Height of Instrument.

                                  Elevation + B.S = H.I 

H.I - Elevation = I.S
